I am scared of injuries
Baby S S, of age eight years consulted me on 09/05/06 and was diagnosed with Ovarian Teratoma.
The child was a Post- Operative case of Ovarian Teratoma. After surgery she had developed secondaries in the lungs. Even after starting chemotheraphy her condition was getting worse. Since she was not responding to the modern line of treatment, she opted for homoeopathy.
THE CASE WITNESSING BEGINS…………
PASSIVE CASE WINESSING PROCESS
D: What is your name?
P: S. S,
D: Tell me what is happening?
Mo: Actually she has been detected with cancer, September she was operated for ovarian mass. Then IFT they did after a month which was normal. Then again there was a change in the shape of stomach so we consulted a surgeon, he advised to do an ultrasound sonography. So 31st December we detected that ... Then we started chemo and today morning C.T scan we did.
D: I will talk to her (child), I will call you later.
(Mother goes out)
D: Tell me a bit about you
P: What should I tell you about me?
P: What you will ask that only I will tell?
D: What do you like, dislike, what is happening with you now-a-days?
P: I like everything. There is nothing that I don’t like.
D: Now what is happening with you?
P: Only some cold and cough
D: Cold and cough since when?
P: Since 3-4 days.
D: Since 3-4 days and what else?
P: Sometimes stomach ache and sometimes don’t feel like eating food then feel like vomiting and that time always cough is vomited.
P: And nothing, this happens sometimes.
END OF PASSIVE CASE WITNESSING PROCESS
FOCUS OF THE CASE: Not clear, so we will have to go to other subconscious areas to find the focus.
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE: Name and fact.
EXPERIENCING THE FACTS: She is in touch with herself.
(Up till now she is just speaking of her physical complaints at a very fact level (local fact level) and not going any further, so we become ACTIVE and try to go in different subconscious areas.)
ACTIVE and ACTIVE- ACTIVE CASE WITNESSING PROCESS
D: Tell me something about yourself?
P: You ask then I will tell, what you ask that only I will tell.
D: So what do you like?
P: Sometimes I like to eat, sometimes I like to drink.
P: And when mumma doesn’t play I get angry, why she doesn’t play.
D: What else do you like, what do you feel like doing?
P: Playing and studying
D: Very good.
P: But now I don’t go to school so there is nothing to study, so I draw.
P: This much only
D: So what do you like to do most?
P: Drawing and little watching T.V
D: What do you like on T.V.?
P: Picture and Marathi (Local language) serials.
(Here we see that nothing peculiar comes up in the area of interests & hobbies and the case is not moving any further. So we actively go into another subconscious area of ‘fear’ and try to explore it so as to find the focus of the case.)
D: And what are you scared of?
P: When my mother shouts, beats- then she hits hard like this Fatak [sound] and then her voice rises very high so I get scared.
D: What else are you scared of?
P: And no other fear.
D: And when you were small what fears you had?
P: That only loud noise and when I used to dream and get up I used to feel scared.
(Here we see that she spontaneously goes to another area of dreams. This indicates that her energy probably lies in this area. So we go ahead without altering the child’s flow.)
D: What you used to see in dream?
P: That only somebody is doing something to her.
D: Tell me what he used to do?
P: Like when a mother beats her child that dream. I could not understand that time. I used to get up and be scared.
(In the dream also she used to see the same i.e. mother beating the child. This gives a soft hint that we are slowly moving towards the focus of the case.)
D: Means what you used to see in dreams?
P: When mother beats her child, that time I was very small and I could not understand that she is beating him, means you should not get scared, still I used to be scared, I could not understand so I used to cry.
D: You used to get up and cry but about what thing you were scared of when you were small?
P: When anyone used to say ‘now you have to be admitted’. So now I am scared of needle.
D: Tell about it?
P: When it pricks that time I get scared of needle because they prick very hard, that time the pain I can’t bear so I am scared.
D: Tell a bit about it?
P: And when blood comes out of finger that time I feel now it will never stop. When I don’t eat sometimes and blood comes then I feel dizzy I am scared.
D: And what are you scared of?
P: And nothing.
D: And first you were scared of?
P: First I was very scared now I feel little scared.
D: First you were scared of what?P: Needle and scissors and gas.
D: Tell what you were scared of before?
P: And when mumma used to do something with needle when I was 3-4 years old I used to feel now this finger will get cut so I was scared.
D: Tell about it you are telling very nicely?
P: Her finger will get cut then blood will come then I will get scared then this will take many days to become all right so.
D: So you were scared of the scissors also?
P: While cutting paper with scissors that time blood will come then it will take 3-4 days to heal, she used to cut fast so.
D: And what else you were scared of when you were in nursery?
P: When the books are new and teacher bangs them on table that time I used to feel that teacher will hurt her hand and it will be swollen.
D: And tell more about it?
P: When it will get swollen then it will not get all right then teacher will apply ointment day and night and that noise used to come which my ear could not take it. And when in garden I used to sit on cycle and ride that time I used to feel now I will fall and I will get hurt here, and then I used to get scared so I did not ride the cycle. I only sit inside and read books and solve puzzles.
D: And what you were scared of when you were small?
P: And when mumma used to tell me to turn off the gas then I used to feel this finger will go there and it will catch fire then I have to put it in cold water, apply ice, then after 2-3 days it will get OK, then morning, afternoon and night put ointment day and night and when I became 6 years old I was riding cycle that time I was scared. I used to ride fast. I was scared I will fall and one day I really fell.
D: And what you were scared of when you were small?
P: Not much, when volume of voice used to rise, when plates used to fall “thang” [sound] that time I used to feel that now it will fall on someone’s leg so I was little scared and one day it fell on my leg.
D: What else you were scared of?
P: Now I am not scared.
D: Not now but when you were small what else were you scared of?
P: When mumma used to do stitching with needle and thread and one day it hurt her finger then I felt now this blood will come and after some days it will get all right and then she put bandage and it was all right in a day.
D: So out of all these fears, what were you scared of the most?
P: When I used to ride cycle and fall, when I used to go near gas burner and when I used to cut with knife the vegetables I used to be scared.
D: While cutting the vegetables with knife you were scared why what happened in that?
P: When I used to cut vegetables with knife that time when I did not pay attention to it I would be scared that I might cut my finger with the knife. Also I would be scared of getting burnt near the gas burner so I never used to go close to the gas. These two things I was scared the most.
(Here in different areas with different time zones, the same thing is observed. In all her expressions like ‘mother hitting her hard’, ‘scared of needle pricking’, ‘scared of finger cut by scissor and blood will come’, ‘teacher’s hand will get swollen’, ‘fear of falling and getting hurt’, ‘finger will catch fire’, ‘plate falling on the leg’, everywhere we see the theme of “injury”, “getting hurt” coming up. This assures us that this is the focus of the case.)
ACTIVE-ACTIVE FOR CONFIRMATION IN AREA OF DREAMS
D: And tell me what dreams you get?
P: Like that only dirty, dirty, of ghosts.
D: Tell about it?
P: Like that only roaming in the house and doing something to mummy and daddy.
D: What he is doing?
P: Something on leg and blood is coming out and something has happened to mummas leg… like that dirty dream.
D: What has happened to mumma’s leg?
P: Blood is coming out of mumma’s leg like that dirty dream, mumma is sleeping and she does not understand that her leg is bleeding.
D: And which other dreams did you get?
P: And sometimes anybody is shooting anyone and is killing him with blade, cutting his hand and putting it in water. Somebody is falling off from the bridge and those insects were climbing on anybody’s body when he was asleep, such dirty dreams I used to get.
D: Tell me which was the dirtiest dream that you saw?
P: When this boy cuts this girls hand with blade and put her hand in water and when somebody kills someone with a gun.
(In the dreams also what comes in the centre is the “injury”. All these expressions speak of the sensitivity of the child towards “injury” and “getting hurt”.
(Previously the child spoke that she gets scared of her mom’s raised voice, scared of the sound “fatak”. At this point in the case we ask her about this so as to understand how this sound is connected to her central altered state.)
D: So you said sometimes when mumma shouts and talks in raised voice you get scared, tell about it?
P: When she shouts I feel like crying and her voice becomes very loud.
D: What are you scared of when her voice rises?
P: Dhad dhad [sound] in chest and I feel she does not love me, so I feel that I am a trouble for her now.
D: What happens?
P: Feel scared in the chest.
D: What is the fear?
P: Feel that now she will beat, shout.
D: Means what do you feel?
P: I feel now she will come and beat
D: How does she beat?
P: Very hard. Her hand hurts.
P: Finger impressions come on the back. I fall on wooden table. She hits hard. Her hand is big so.
(Here again we see, when asked about the sound she goes to the hitting hard and hurt.)
D: You said when plate falls down you get scared?
P: I can’t bear the noise in ear so I get scared when plate falls down and makes noise.
(The child just was not able to go further with this.)
END OF THE CASE
UNDERSTANDING OF THE CASE
OUT OF PLACE, OUT OF ORDER WORDS
Passive case witnessing process
She just spoke of her physical complaints at a very fact level (local fact level). Nothing peculiar and out of place came up.
Active and Active- Active case witnessing process
- When my mother shouts, beats- then she hits hard like this Fatak [sound] and then her voice rises very high so I get scared.
- Dream: Mother beats her child.
- When it pricks that time I get scared of needle because they prick very hard.
- Scared of needle and scissors and gas… her finger will get cut then blood will come.
- Cutting paper with scissors that time blood will come then it will take 3-4 days to heal.
- When the teacher bangs the books on table, I feel that teacher will hurt her hand and it will be swollen… That noise used to come in my ear.
- When I used to sit on cycle and ride that time I used to feel now I will fall and I will get hurt.
- Mumma’s finger will catch fire.
- When plates used to fall that time I used to feel that now it will fall on someone's leg and will get hurt.
- While cutting vegetables, scared I might cut my finger with the knife.
Active-Active for confirmation in area of dreams
- Something has happened to mumma’s leg… and blood is coming out.
- Shooting anyone
- Killing him with blade, cutting his hand and putting it in water.
- Somebody is falling off from the bridge.
- Those insects were climbing on anybody’s body.
- When this boy cuts this girls hand with blade and put her hand in water.
- Somebody kills someone with a gun.
Apart from “injury”, the other thing that came up very peculiarly was getting scared of ‘fatak’ sound, mom’s voice rising very high. On asking her about this, she says
- Feel now she will come and beat… impressions of five finger come on back. I fall on wooden table she hits hard… I can’t bear the noise in ear I get scared.
The child couldn’t further describe her inner experience when asked about this sound. However, from the case witnessing process the ‘centre’ of the child was crystal clear.
WHAT IS THE FOCUS/CENTRE/ESSENCE OF THE CASE??
- Hitting hard
- Fatak sound
- Needle prick
- Needles, scissors, gas (burn)
- Blood coming out
- Catch fire
- Fear of falling
- Cut with knife, blade
- In the entire case we see the pure sensitivity of the child towards ‘injuries’ especially the sharp, pricking, cutting, traumatic ones. Though she mentions someone cutting someone’s hand with a blade, but for her the focus is not that someone. For her the focus lies in ‘getting injured and hurt’.
This clearly points to the PLANT KINGDOM.
- Scared of getting injured.
- Scared of getting hurt.
- Scared of getting burnt.
This is suggestive of the COMPOSITAE FAMILY.
In this case, the most astonishing observation was the calm and composed speech of the child inspite of her knowing about her grave pathology. This showed the super human kind of control on the emotions thus very suggestive of the CANCER MIASM.
The first remedy that usually comes to mind when spoken of injury is Arnica. But Arnica belongs to the Acute miasm. If the child’s remedy was Arnica, that acuteness, that panic of the Acute miasm would be seen in the case, which was absolutely missing here. Thus, the search was for a remedy that is predominantly for deep injuries and with the cancer miasm running in the centre.
From the Materia Medica
– First remedy in injuries to the deeper tissues, after major surgical work. (Boericke)
– Tumors from Injury. (Phatak)
– Injury to the nerves with hard, aching and unbearable pains. (Phatak)
– Cancerous affections.
Remedy given was BELLIS PERENNIS (Common name: DAISY)
Since at the end of passive case witnessing process, the child was at the local fact level, the potency given was 30 C.
Since the pathology was deep, frequent repetitions were given.
She was given 6 drops O.D.
CENTRAL THEME OF THE FAMILY:
- Physical injury.
- Burnt and scalded.
- Fear to be touched, hurt or approached.
- Mental injury: Hurt or insulted.
- Hurting others.
- Cruel/ violent.
- Not affected by any hurt.
MORE ABOUT THE REMEDY:
– Bellis Perennis is known commonly as a wound wort, therefore like Arnica it is a great traumatic remedy. It is especially useful in deep trauma or septic wounds of abdominal and pelvic organs; after major surgical operations. (Phatak)
– Near and remote effects; of blows, falls, accidents, railway spine. (Phatak)
– Injury when swelling remains after treatment with Arnica.
– [Cancerous] Indurations of mammae after contusion.
– Lymph edema after mammae amputation.
After 3 months of treatment, at the general level the child’s appetite had improved and overall energy wise she was feeling much better than before. When asked about her dreams, she replied …’she saw her aunty shouting at her, beating her, slapping her for something done wrong. Further when asked ‘how she hits’, the child spontaneously connected it to her mother, where she said ‘like how mumma used to hit first’. In this follow up the same issue of ‘injury’ came up again in the subconscious area of dreams and thus confirmed our prescription of the remedy. Also we observed that the child’s level of experience had moved from lower (fact) level to the higher (delusion) level. This shift from lower to higher level of experience suggested…
- The process of cure is in the right direction.
- Since at that given moment of time, the child was at the delusion level, the potency that she then needed was 1M.
Therefore, Bellis Perennis 1M, 6 drops OD was given.
After 5 months of treatment, the weakness and tiredness that was there before had completely gone and she felt all right and O.K. Mother added that there had been a significant change in her behavior and personality. When enquired about her fears; the child said that ‘now I like my mumma even if she shouts and beats me because later on she loves me’. All those bad dreams had vanished. Also we observed that she had developed some black spots with itching on her skin of both hands and legs. This was a good sign as it signified the ‘Exteriorization of the disease’. Since the pathology was deep, Bellis Perennis 1M was still given in OD repetitions.
After 10 months of treatment, the child got an acute episode of stomatitis. Spontaneously that time she denied that her mumma doesn’t shout at her. On asking what she felt when sometimes mumma shouted at her, she answered ‘At that time I feel something going on in my ear…ear starts paining just like when giving injection… as if someone putting toothpick in my ear… just that type of pricking inside my ear (HG of index finger pointing to the ear) and then it starts paining. It pains like thorn pricks, nail pricks’. Remember she kept telling this (Fatak sound) in first interview. Now even if mother is not shouting, she can experience the whole sensation.
She then made a drawing where she described that these are thorns, they prick. If anyone will hit them, put stones on them they then prick him.
In first interview due to low level of experience, she could not experience it but now she can objectively talk about it. This is what we call awareness and this also proves that this is the patient’s central core. Her medicine continued the same way.
following are the investigation [USG]reports of before and after the treatment-
Her ultrasonography reports were repeated after six months of homeopathic treatment and a substantial change had taken place: All the enlarged lymph nodes had subsided and there were no cancerous deposits. The report also revealed no significant abnormality.
Further on in her homeopathic journey, as she continued the treatment, she started experiencing a healthier state of well-being, which was reflected in her weight, hair, skin, energy level, sleeping, and eating patterns. She became clear about her interests in painting, and with parent’s encouragement, she is pursuing her interest in painting while balancing it well with her study curriculum.
It was ten years that she has continued with us. She is now off all her treatments and only visits us if anything acute comes up. She has grown up to be a balanced child—physically, emotionally, subconsciously—and in connection with her natural, unique self. It is really rewarding to have witnessed her transform from a sick, pale-looking child in the grip of cancer at a tender age, back into the holistic, free state of living where she is free from cancer and her treatments and is happily enjoying her childhood while pursuing her studies and areas of interest. It is also very rewarding to witness the charm that was somewhat hidden in her could finally find an open space to spread its wings and manifest its aura freely!
